Thursday, 26 September – Wednesday, 13 November 2013 Desert Dreamings: Booker-Lowe Gallery Warlpiri painters are world-acclaimed for their vibrant colors and complex patterns that depict the desert homeland and creation stories of their ancient culture. "Desert Dreamings" features contemporary abstracts recalling wind-driven sand patterns, the desert in bloom, and traditional ceremonial sites, as well as iconographic paintings of Dreaming stories about the emus, native parakeets, and other anthropomorphic ancestors still believed to roam the desert. Regardless of their subjects, these Warlpiri artists "paint happy" Opening Reception Attention: musical comedy fans! The long-awaited Broadway tour of "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert," is coming to Houston's Hobby Center, Sunday, 29 September – Saturday, 12 October. Priscilla is based on the iconic Australian adult film depicting the outrageous adventures of three friends (female impersonators) travelling through the rugged outback.
