Thursday, 27 September through Saturday, 3 November 2012 Woven ... in 2D:
Recently selected one of Arts Ltd Magazine's "Critic's Picks: Houston," Karen creates "textural paintings that draw inspiration from such sources as indigenous weaving patterns and her adoptive mother’s hand-knit garments."
Karen, whose homeland lies near the Kimberley Mountains, was adopted as an infant and grew up in the coastal city of Adelaide. Now living in Darwin, she draws on both aboriginal and western cultures in her work. She constructs each elegant, small painting with under-layers of looping lines of color and fibre that become metaphors for her bi-cultural identity, and "floats" elements referencing indigenous woven objects on the surface. Booker-Lowe is the leading American gallery for contemporary Aboriginal fine art from Australia. We're open Wednesday-Saturday, 11 am – 5 pm, and by appointment at your convenience. We stock hundreds of paintings and original prints from under $250 to $25,000, and can source Aboriginal artworks for those with special requirements. |
