Thursday, 24 March, through Saturday, 28 May 2011 Sandhill Country: From the tiny community of Iwantja (also called Indulkana), South Australia's Anagnu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) desert lands stretch for hundreds of miles in every direction. The Aboriginal inhabitants of this sparsely-populated country may speak different languages, but they paint with a common voice – expressing ancient ties to their ancestors and their traditional lands in vibrant patterns. In recent years the artists of Iwantja have been acclaimed for creating exceptional paintings representing their desert country, either in natural ochre colors or in the vivid hues of the desert in bloom. The acrylic paintings in our Sandhill Country exhibition range in size from 23" x 20" to 60" x 48", and are priced from $550 to $3,750. (Frankly, we at Booker-Lowe think Iwantja paintings are some of the best values in Aboriginal art today!) Booker-Lowe is honored to present the first exhibition of Iwantja paintings in the Americas! |
