Power of Place: Our Lands/Our Dreamings by the Warlpiri Artists of Australia’s Central Desert
The Warlpiri people have called Australia’s Central Desert home for thousands of years. Since the late 1980s, Warlpiri artists have adopted modern materials to create powerful paintings that reflect their ruggedly-beautiful landscapes and ancestral Dreamings.
Power of Place will feature paintings by leading artists such as Athena Nangala Granites and Tanya Nugarrayi Collins, as well as works by emerging artists.
“These artists are known for combining vibrant colors and detailed patterns, often layering dots and icons to represent the geological features, flora and fauna, of their homelands, as well as the mythological figures of the Dreamtime, the never-ending creation era,” according to Nana Booker, gallery owner, and Australia’s Honorary Consul Emeritus.
